Watch Mary Wells and the Hollywood Heroes at the Hop
Mary Wells, vocals; Gary Swan, music director, keyboards, background vocals; Steve Recker, electric guitar, background vocals; Wayne Bergeron, trumpet, Dave Stanbaugh, tenor sax; Gary Tole trombone; John Menzano bass; Gerry Leone, drums. I met Gary on a break from touring with Al Stewart. I think Dave Camp referred me. I had just returned from England with a very fancy suit I bought on Carnaby Street. Gary introduced me to the band and asked them why they did not dress so nicely. That really got me off on a great foot with the guys... Anyway, I became great friends with Gary and played a million gigs with the Hollywood Heroes. And he introduced me to Tommy Chong, but that is another story. The club was The Hop in Orange County, It was owned by the Righteous Brothers. I even remember meeting Bobby Hatfield that night. Really glad to get a few Hollywood hero songs on tape, but halfway through Mary's set the tape dies, so I don't have My Guy on tape. Sorry about that.
